Competent Authority Pathway

If obtaining a post in medicine is your definition of viable then the Competent Authority Pathway is generally considered to be the most viable of the four pathways for international doctors working in Australia.

And the statistics don’t lie.

In 2018 (the most recent data set we have available) there were 1,045 applications from IMG doctors for provisional registration in Australia with 1,001 of these being granted. That’s a 96% success rate.

If you compare this to the Standard Pathway process which requires you to sit 2 examinations with significant failure rates prior to being able to apply for jobs then the Competent Authority Pathway does sound very viable.

But as you will come to know through this course there are still a number of hurdles and challenges to face.
